Where Two Rivers Begin

Hydroseeding in Kernersville comes with an unusual setting: two Piedmont rivers rise right around the town. The Deep River rises in western Guilford County east of Kernersville, and the Haw River rises in northeast Forsyth County near the Guilford line just north of town. Headwater streams are small, but they are where sediment from bare lots first enters river systems that serve a big part of North Carolina.

Why headwaters matter

About 10 percent of North Carolina's population lives in the Haw River watershed, and the Haw supplies drinking water to a large part of the state. Downstream, the Deep River is habitat for two federally endangered species, the Cape Fear shiner and the Atlantic pigtoe mussel. Keeping soil on a construction lot here is more than a permit item. We put silt fence in before grading where it is needed and get seed and mulch down as soon as final grade is set.

A crossroads town

Kernersville grew from Dobson's Crossroads and later Kerner's Crossroads, and it still sits at a crossroads: the I-40 and I-74 interchange is just west of town limits. Highway access draws building of every kind, and every one of those sites goes through a bare-soil phase that needs stabilizing.

Residential lawns

For homeowners, most of our Kernersville work is new lawn installation after a build, lawn repair after septic or utility work, and fall overseeding of fescue lawns that thinned over a hot summer.

A garden worth a visit

The Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden in town is a good place to see what thrives locally before deciding what goes in the beds and borders around a new lawn.

Kernersville Questions

Why do you care where my lot drains?

Because small streams around Kernersville feed the Deep and Haw rivers. Knowing the low side tells us where silt fence goes and which areas to seed first.

Do you work on warehouse and commercial sites near I-40?

Yes. We hydroseed finished grades, install silt fence and inlet protection, and stabilize slopes on commercial and industrial pads.

Can you repair my lawn after septic work?

Yes. We regrade the disturbed area, add topsoil if the fill is poor, and hydroseed it to match the surrounding lawn as closely as we can.

When should I overseed a fescue lawn in Kernersville?

Early fall, once the summer heat breaks. That gives new seedlings cool weather and a full season to fill in before the next summer.
