Lawns and Banks Along the Dan and Smith
Hydroseeding in Eden happens in a river city. The Smith River flows down from the north, bisecting the city, and meets the Dan River on Eden's south side, while the Dan runs along the southern border. Many yards, parks and commercial sites here sit above one river or the other, and bare ground on those slopes drains straight to the water.
Keeping soil out of the rivers
With the Smith River running through town and the Dan along its southern edge, much of Eden drains to moving water within a short distance. Soil that leaves a construction site or a freshly graded yard ends up in the river. Our part is simple: keep it on the land with silt fence, inlet protection and fast cover, and seed or blanket bare slopes as soon as the grading is done.
Three mill towns in one
Eden was formed in 1967 when Leaksville, Spray and Draper consolidated, and for much of the 20th century the area was a center of textile mills. Older mill-village yards are small and mature, so most of our work there is renovation and overseeding, while former industrial land can need topsoil before anything will grow.
The Land of Eden
The name goes back to William Byrd II, who owned a 70,000-acre estate here in the 1700s and called it the Land of Eden. Much of it was later settled as small farms. Rural lots on the edges of the city are often old farm or wood ground that needs clearing, grading and a new lawn.
River slopes
On steep ground above the Dan or Smith, seed and mulch alone are not enough; those banks get a rolled blanket or a bonded fiber matrix, and we avoid opening more slope than can be seeded quickly.

Eden Questions
Do you seed slopes that run down to the Dan or Smith River?
Yes. Riverside slopes get blankets or bonded fiber matrix, plus silt fence along the bottom while the grass takes hold.
Can you redo a small yard in an old mill village?
Yes. Small yards suit hydroseeding because the hose can reach from the street without heavy equipment on the lawn.
How do I know if my soil needs topsoil?
If you dig a few inches and hit hard red clay, gravel or debris, it does. We check before quoting.
Do you work in the Leaksville, Spray and Draper areas?
Yes. We work throughout Eden, including all three of the original towns.
